Asthma

What is it?
Asthma causes inflammation and tightening of the airways in response to triggers. Symptoms range from mild to life-threatening and are usually well controlled with the right treatment plan.

- Difficulty breathing during exercise
Causes

- Exercise and stress
Treatment
- Inhaled corticosteroids for long-term control
- Quick-relief bronchodilator inhalers
- Avoiding known triggers
- A written asthma action plan
When to see a doctor
- Breathlessness that does not ease with a reliever inhaler — emergency
- Symptoms that wake you at night
- Needing your reliever inhaler more than twice a week
